WHAT IS A BEARD TRANSPLANT?
Beard transplant is a hair restoration procedure where the beard hair transplanted from the scalp using follicular unit extraction techniques (FUE). TECHNIQUES FOR BEARD/MUSTACHE TRANSPLANTATION
MediExpert uses latest technology FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique in beard/mustache transplantations. Hair is usually transplanted from the scalp and implanted in the recipient area. In the cases of not having sufficient hair in the scalp, body hair can be used from the legs, arms, chest or facial hair.

Procedure starts with drawing the beard line. This is consulted with the patient in detail and finalized taking in to consideration the personal requests of the patient before the procedure begins.
1. EXTRACTING THE GRAFTS
The rear part of the scalp (donor area) is prepared by washing and shaving. A local anesthesia is applied to reduce any possible discomfort followed by the extraction of the follicular units from the donor area by using a state of the art electronic surgical instrument so as called ‘punch’. The grafts are taken prioritizing to match with facial hair.
After the grafts taken by the punch, they are then separated into one, two or three hairs categories. After the extraction, an antiseptic gel is applied to the donor area which can be easily removed the next day. Extraction process take around 1-3 hours depending on the number of grafts to be extracted.
2. PREPARATION AND STORAGE OF THE GRAFTS
As soon as the extraction process complete, the grafts are then placed in a nutritious solution which will ensure their vitality until they are cultivated. The follicular units must kept in the required optimal temperature until the implantation process begins.
3. OPENNING THE CHANNELS
At this stage of the procedure which is similar to the hair transplantation, anesthesia is used for the recipient area and incisions are made where the implants will later then be placed. The channels will define the growth direction of the beards which has to be similar with existing natural beard pattern with the desired density in the recipient area. This process takes around 60-90 minutes.
4. IMPLANTATION OF THE GRAFTS
This is MediExpert’s final phase of the beard transplantation procedure. Instruments to make precise placement of the grafts to the recipient area are used which is called ‘Implanters’. As each follicular unit have a variable number of hair (1-3 hairs), different implanter with all of them under 1mm in diameter is used depending on the quantity of hair accordingly in order to get a precise perfection. Follicular units are then placed one by one into the designated areas taking into account the natural hair growth angle. This final phase of placement of grafts typically take between 1-3 hours depending on the number of grafts to be placed. After the implantation procedure completed, head is washed and cleaned up followed by a general check-up of the beard transplantation.
HOW LONG IS THE BEARD TRANSPLANTATION PROCEDURE?
The procedure will take between 3-4 hours depending on the density of the donor zone and the number of grafts to be implanted. It is recommended that you should take a complete day off and not make any arrangements on the day of the procedure.
STRAIGHT AFTER THE PROCEDURE
You are free to go home or to your hotel immediately after the beard/mustache transplantation. Although the FUE procedure not having any complications, it might cause minimal side effects such as swelling especially in the forehead which is only on temporary basis. It will lessen and heal within a day or two. IS BEARD/MUSTACHE TRANSPLANTATION PAINFUL?

IS THERE ANY RISKS FOR THE PROCEDURE?
Since it is a minor cosmetic procedure which transferring hair from one area to the other, there is not any medical risks involved. It is a basic and very safe procedure.
HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY PERIOD?
FUE hair transplantation technique is a painless procedure without any complications. Therefore, the recovery period should not take more than 5-7 days in the transplanted area following MediExpert’s doctor recommendations. There will be no linear scars or incision at the back of the scalp, might have very little scars which will not be visible to the naked human eye, only through a magnifying glass. On the other hand, facial area will look exactly before the procedure within maximum 2 weeks time.
CAN I GO TO WORK STRAIGHT AWAY AFTER THE OPERATION?
There is not any reason not to go to work straight away. However, it may be better to take a week off unless the doctor advise otherwise. If you plan to arrange holiday to a sunny destination straight after the operation, you are advised to use sunscreen with high factor and wear hat whilst under the sun.
WHEN CAN I SHAVE MY BEARD / MUSTACHE?
It is allowed to shave 10 days after the procedure. It is recommended to use only scissors until the 5th month, the other type of shavers can be used after this period.
WILL THE TRASNSPLANTED BEARD/MUSTACHE LOOK NATURAL?
Since MediExpert specialists will place the hair precisely and strategically using a microscope, your beard/mustache will look like completely natural. It is almost impossible for someone who does not know that you underwent a procedure to differentiate your transplanted hair with the existing one.
