5WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF HYMENOPLASTY?
All types of hymenoplasty are generally performed under local anesthesia or twilight sedation. However, general anesthesia may also be administered upon request. MediExpert performs three types of hymenoplasty procedures that are outlined below and our surgeons are dedicated to meet the specific goals of each patient for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes.⦁ Basic TechniqueThis is the most common performed type of hymenoplasty and involves stitching the edges of the remaining hymen pieces together. This allows the hymen tissue to grow back together in the healing period and consequently take on the form of the original one. Moreover, the stitching can also tighten the vaginal walls to enhance a woman a complete virginal feel. Stitches are dissolvable type meaning that they will absorb within the body not requiring a further visit for removal purpose. The entire procedure takes approximately half an hour to complete.⦁ Allopant Technique This technique is performed when the skin can not be stitched back together to restore the hymen. In this case, a biomaterial synthetic tissue is inserted into the vagina and this material will function as the hymen. A small blood supply may also be added either through the patient’s own vaginal flap or artificially in order to simulate the traditional bleeding upon following a sexual intercourse. This procedure typically takes less than two hours.⦁ Hymen Reconstruction This technique involves a new hymen to be created by using tissues from the vaginal skin and appropriate for patients without having a presence of hymen naturally. Approximately, one woman out of a thousand are born without a hymen. Dissolvable type of sutures are used and the procedure takes around two hours. Blood supply again may also be added to simulate traditional bleeding upon subsequent sexual intercourse. Sexual intercourse should be avoided for a minimum of three months following hymen reconstruction.
6HOW LONG IS THE PROCEDURE?
Basic hymen repair procedure typically take between 30-45 minutes, whereas reconstructive techniques take approximately 90-120 minutes.
7IS THE HYMENOPLASTY PAINFUL?
Individuals will not feel any sort of pain during the procedure, since the procedure is performed under anesthesia. Although pain tolerance may vary, most of the patients experience minimal discomfort after the procedure which is manageable and overcome by prescribed pain relievers. Limited pain may only be expected within the first 24 hours, while most of the patients stop taking pain medication after few days following the procedure. Most patients report that the procedure and the recovery period is less painful than they thought it would be.
8WILL I HAVE A SCAR AFTER HYMENOPLASTY?
Hymenoplasty typically leaves no scar. Once the healing period is completed which is around six weeks, not even a gynecologist would be able to tell that the patient has undergone the procedure. Same condition applies for the reconstructed hymen as it is impossible to differentiate with the natural one.
9HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME?
Recovery from a hymenoplasty is rapid as hymenoplasty is not a complicated procedure. There may be spotting and slight bleeding with a light reddish color during the first 48-72 hours following the procedure which is perfectly normal. Some swelling, dizziness and minimal discomfort may be expected which is easily controlled by prescribed pain medication and antibiotics. However, the procedure is unlikely to disturb the individual’s life significantly as patients can enjoy returning to their normal daily activities almost immediately. It is approximately 4-6 weeks required for the full recovery to be completed.
10WHAT ARE THE RECOVERY GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW?

There are benefits of having these surgeries at once as initially it avoids the risks of two surgeries, anesthesia applied one at a time and advantageous in terms of minimizing recovery process, saving time and money accordingly.
21ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
The results will be permanent as long as not taking proper care and following recovery instructions which will enable the maintenance of restored hymen until the following sexual encounter.
22WHEN CAN I SEE THE FINAL RESULTS?
The result is immediate as the hymen will be reclosed. However, 4-6 weeks on average are required for the dissolvable stitches to be absorbed and the final results to be appreciated.
